Colour Scheme Competition!

Doo Doo Doo Da Doo Doo De Doo Doo…
So, I’m quite happy with the theme we’ve got here (although it will undergo a lot more tweaking before it’s done), but one thing that my fellow blogtards OwningXylophone and Evoroth don’t seem to agree with is my excellent grey colour scheme (that’s a “gray” “color” scheme if you’re a ‘merkun). In my defense, it was the quickest thing I could come up with that looked semi-professional, even if it is a bit dull.
So, I’m throwing it open to everyone. What colours do we go with? We have full control over the skin, so we can have gradients or whatever. You can try tweaking things on the fly with Firebug if you’re a Firefox user. You could even take a screenshot and upload it somewhere.
Any suggestions, anyone? Or do we stick with the awesome grey theme?

Not the skin that’s on the site, but the download. Couldn’t be bothered to post what I posted earlier again.
No, I know what you mean. I’ve downloaded it and I’ll have a go at installing it later. Installing themes is a bit of a pain (it’s actually worse than DotNetNuke - the horror!) so I’ll see how it goes. We still need to work out our own colour scheme though. I always like Xbox 360 Fanboy and their greeniness. It goes well with the whole Xbox thing. They use Wordpress too!
New theme active! I decided to go with white and green for now. Yeah, I know, it’s still very grey…
That said, I do think it looks really good actually - hats off to you for a good find! There are a few things we could tweak, but generally I like it. There’s also an option to display a huge “Get Firefox” banner to IE users, which I thought was pretty funny.
Also, I discovered that installing themes is a hell of a lot easier with a proper FTP client rather than the file manager I get with the hosting. Same goes for plugins and widgets, too, so look out for lots of new stuff appearing over the next few days.
I just noticed the big firefox banner after using my mates laptop with only the joys of IE how lame i thing i might have to do something about that! But good on mozilla for the shameless plug and jab at IE!
Well, that was the shortest competition ever. Nobody’s complained about the new theme yet so I guess it’s acceptable?
Hadn’t a problem with the one it was just on.
Hello, hello? Is this thing still working? I broke it for a few minutes, hopefully nobody noticed.
That was the default theme, something to do with my breaking of the new one I think.
Dude, we know we’ve really arrived now. Go check out the spam filter, we actually have some spam!
Well at least we’re being indexed.
Not sure if you’ve noticed, but the username in the author comments box is the same colour as the background so you can’t read it, the text is still there if you highlight it though.
Nope, never notice as we’re always logged in. But I’ll look into it.
Author comments? You mean the green on green? I can see it, but some people are using those newfangled LCD TFT whatnots and might not have the awesome contrast of my excellent CRT.
I’ll change it.
I see it as a darker green, though I am on a cheapy work TFT.
Pah - work wouldn’t pay for a TFT for me, its CRT all the way!
I tried fiddling with the graphics setting and now have blisteringly good 32bit graphics but still only 1 shade of green. Its probably IE’s fault!
There’s your problem right there!
How many shades do you need?
There’s Xbox Green, 360 Green, Halo 3 Special Edition Box Green, Master Chief Green, etc, etc.
All the green you ever need.
Enough shades to see who has posted the comment would be nice!
Post a screenshot of what you see.
Hmmm It looks ok at home, I’ll email you a screenshot from work tomorrow.
The background doesn’t look as dark from here.
It’s because you’re using IE6. It doesn’t seem to like something in our CSS - I’ve just tested it out in my uber-leet testing copy of IE6 here at work and it does exactly the same.
