Halo Heroic Map Pack Impressions
Author: Rees | Date: December 14, 2007So I finally got a chance to play on the Halo 3 map pack I paid for last night, and I have to say that Bungie have done themselves proud. All of the maps look great, work great, and fit in well with the rest of the Halo 3 look and feel.
Let’s take a look at each one individually…

Aaargh!! The Flood!! Oh, Wait…
I quite like the idea of this map in its default configuration, although the playlist seems to favour VIP games, which can be a pain due to the convenient VIP “camping rooms” at each end of the map. I haven’t had a go at it with Forge yet, though, but it does seem to have a lot of potential. With 16 people on Team Slayer this map is really frantic - whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on what mood you’re in at the time. I give it a 6/10. For comparison, that’s more than I’d give Snowbound.

If You Believe, They Put A Man On The Moon…
The map that I can never remember the name of. It’s a lot of fun for Capture The Flag, although it is a bit smaller than all of the Blood Gulch comparisons would have you believe - it’s more of a Beaver Creek. Graphically it’s a really impressive map, and those big radio telescopes look incredible. Just don’t spend too long staring at them. The bases are well laid out and the sneaky back passages are dangerous enough to not make them cheaty. Plenty of Warthogs and Mongooses too, but use them at your peril - there are big weapons readily available. I’ll give this 8/10.

There Is A Ghost In Here Somewhere - And A Hammer. Good Times.
I thought this would be my favourite map, and it is. Capture The Flag is easy for seasoned Warthog Warriors like ourselves, as you can barge into the enemy base, grab the flag, and jump back into the hog within about 30 seconds. Slayer seemed to resort to all-out vehicular warfare, with a few wussies camping in the maze-like middle part. That bit still confuses the hell out of me. If I had one complaint about this map, it’s that there are too many vehicles - and this is coming from someone who likes vehicles. That still doesn’t stop me from giving it a 9/10, though.
It’s also smaller than Bungie would have you believe, and no, you can’t fly the Pelican. With those two additions this would easily be a 10/10.
