Halo 3: Snowy Valhalla Hack Is Full Of Win

Author: SmellyGeekBoy | Date: March 30, 2008

Check out these pictures of a hacked version of Valhalla, the popular multiplayer map from Halo 3. Plucky NeoGAF member Ajemsuhgao managed to get a hold of these pictures of a Snowbound / Avalanche inspired mod, supposedly done on a dev console, which I think looks really, really well done.

Looks a lot like the Assault On The Control Room mission from the Halo:CE single player campaign, actually. It kinda makes me wonder how cool it would be if Bungie had gone with realistic weather effects, much in the same vein as PGR4… Maybe for Halo 4, eh?

I can’t help but notice a distinct lack of snow on the trees…

And the vehicles, and the bases. Nobody said it was perfect!

It does look good though.

Yeah. Maybe by some magic and witchcraft from the guys at Bungie, they could put it up for download for use with forge?

Problems:

1. Doesn’t have snow on trees/bases/vehicles
2. Mancannons aren’t glowing
3. Refer to note 5.
4. The ground is too white (Bungie would not use such plain snow, they would make it more appealing to the eye)
5. Why is the water not frozen? If it was so cold there was snow, certainly there would be ice instead of water. Also, WTF waterfall, should not be flowing.
6. Refer to note 3.

MOVING WATER DOESNT FREEZE ASSWIPE!!!! GOD EVEN A 5TH GRADER KNOWS THAT!!!!, IF THERE WAS SNOW ON THE VEHICLES HOW WOULD THE CHARACTER DRIVE THEM, YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW PROGRAMMING WORKS BEFORE YOU SHOOT YOUR MOUTH OFF

LOL… My thoughts exactly. Although anyone who’s ever been skiing high up in the alps will have seen a frozen waterfall…

Just for the record, like. All they did in the hack was change the textures for ones that were already in the game - so they were pretty limited with what they could do.

1. A point I have stated, but probably nothing that can be resolved without making new models
2. Yes they are
3. Not an official map, as clearly stated.
4. It’s a custom map, not an official Bungie one, and yes, they do.
5. Flowing water takes an even lower temperature to freeze – as it’s a waterfall and it’s off-chutes we can safely assume that they wouldn’t freeze. Again if it needed to be frozen, new models would have to made.
6. Not an official map, as clearly stated.

We don’t actually have the map, it was just created by some guy and he put pictures of it up on the internet.

Yea…all he did was recreate textures. even though frozen water would be a nice asset, it would take a highly skilled programmer to mod that.
know a file share that hasn’t been banned for it yet?

I don’t know how to download this or even play it. I’m guessing you’d need a dev box or at least a modded 360, and even then you wouldn’t be able to play it online as nobody else has this map, so it would be a bit pointless really.

sorry bungie and ms dont condone hacking of maps to this degree ,therfore you cant play on xbox live EVER with this kinda map or you will be banned :( though it would be cool if we could all put maps on and download them from bungie kinda like halo custom edition for the pc ,then we could have had maps like coldsnap or hugeass and extinction but that will never happen im afraid

Forge is a step in the right direction, and UT3 on the PS3 supports custom content… So it might be possible one day.

Not now though, like you say.

A test console that game developers use. It lets you modify stuff and add custom code, which is how this map was made.
