Duke Nukem Forever – A History In Trailers
Author: Vince | Date: April 21, 2008
Duke Nukem Forever, the game that has been in development literally, er, forever! 3D Realms sequel to the iconic 1996 PC game, Duke Nukem 3d, was first announced way back in 1997, much to the delight of the DN3d fans. In fact, they even went as far as releasing a four minute trailer comprised almost entirely of gameplay…
So, fast forward four years to 2001… Still no Duke Nukem Forever, and the fans are beginning to get twitchy… In order to allay these fears 3D Realms released another trailer for the game. Obviously having to keep up with the Jones’s, the game had received a total face-lift, but more alarmingly the video comprises almost totally of prerendered cutscenes with a splattering of gameplay.
The modern day, ok last year, 2007. Still no game, and by now all the fans of the original games have grown up and are beginning to move on from the juvenile humour the game will almost certainly offer. 3D Realms however, wanted to make sure we did not forget their flat topped hero, and dropped another new trailer, but now zero gameplay… Just a lovely CG video.
Still no release date… In fact if you look at it, development seems to be going backwards. Since 1997 we are seeing less and less of the actual game. Maybe if we head over to the Duke Nukem department at 3D Realms we’d finally realise that they are just hiring one man to make videos and keep the internets biggest practical joke running as long as possible.

They’d better hurry up with this, it’s fairly obvious that ‘The Duke’ is getting on in years. It’ll be Duke Nukem Down the Pension Queue if they leave it much longer.
Hey, if it’s good enough for Harrison Ford and Sly Stallone..!
