Control Your Wii With An AK-47

Author: SmellyGeekBoy | Date: April 23, 2008

Those guys at Nintendo have always been about the family-friendly image. Bright, colourful, cheerful games like Mario Kart have always been their bag, and only recently with the Wii have they lightened up a bit and started allowing some darker, more violent games onto their platform.

I am, of course, talking about Rayman: Raving Rabbids.

But seriously, the anonymous author of I Make Projects decided that what his WiiMote really needed was a nice crispy, AK-47 flavoured outer shell, for rifle-butting those douchebag rabbids when they dare sing out of tune. So that’s exactly what he did.

The outer casing is a cheap toy AK, and inside it contains a gutted WiiMote with quite a lot of hardware modifications done. If you want to make your very own, you’ll just have to take a look at the project page over here.

I was going to argue, but I looked again and I actually agree with you. It is quite racist if you look at it that way.

Anyway, I’m not responsible for the video… I just thought it was a cool hack.

Uh, how is this at all racist? There is no inference to race at all in this video!

No one is saying “my race is better than your race”, which is what racism is. Don’t go throwing the race card around when you feel like it.

This video is generalizing and stereotyping, but thats all, no racism, no bigotry.

Get a life!

Like I say, it’s racist if you look at it that way. I didn’t see any racism in it when I first saw it, to be honest. That said, a Shemagh is a traditional arab headdress so he could be implying that arabs all run around with AKs all the time…

Why are we even having this argument anyway!?

I’d say it’s about as racist as playing Call of Duty 4 - i.e. shooting and killing Afghan’s and alike, or playing any other modern wartime game where it’s Allies vs. the Enemy, where at present, the enemy is almost always of Middle Eastern decent.

I’m sorry, but this can’t be deemed as racist as it’s a god damn peripheral for a Nintendo Wii. I agree that maybe the whole costume was a bit much, but there’s nothing racist about it in my opinion.
