Ubuntu 8.04 Released… Yesterday!
Author: Rees | Date: April 25, 2008
D’oh! Looks like I missed the boat a bit on this one. Well, I didn’t miss the boat entirely, as I actually remembered to upgrade to the final release, but I did kinda forget to blog about it. What with the massive popularity of my Ubuntu USB post, I guess there’s a big Ubuntu following here, so I should probably do something to mark the occasion!
And what an occasion it is – as I’ve been using it since Alpha 6 I can wholeheartedly say that the latest version of Ubuntu, 8.04 (otherwise known as Hardy Heron) is by far the best yet. It’s also an LTS release so it’ll be kept updated until 2011. There’s absolutely no excuse to not go out and install it right now.
Unless, of course, you did it yesterday…
Check out some of the new features on Ubuntu’s page over here – it’s in lovely plain English so why not send some family members there too? When you’re all done, you can download it here.

I’m thinking of changing my laptop to Ubuntu as good old Vista is being really slow and i think there are some nasty gremlin things living in my hard drive! So i think a nice wipe and start again windows free might be a damn fine idea!
It’d give you something to post about too… (hint, hint)
What my epic failure into the world of Linux! I’m starting with the mass backup of my hard drive just in case!!
I think you’ll be quite surprised with Ubuntu. Provided all your hardware works (which it probably should), it should be everything you need.
Plus you have one of them fancy modern laptops so you’ll get all them flashy desktop effects it has these days!
Proper bo then i’m backing up as we speak anyway and i’m half way through the download of Ubuntu! Then i think tomorrow i shall geek it up a bit!
