GTA4 Breaks UK Launch Records, Also Sells Better On 360 Than PS3

Another day, another GTA IV story… Heh, I’m a whore for a bit of web traffic so why the hell not.
It’s certainly earnt all the coverage anyway, as GTA4 has smashed the UK record for first-day sales, beating previous top-seller Halo 3 – it managed to shift 609,000 copies, which absolutely obliterates Halo 3‘s 266,000. Even when the game’s multi-platform release is taken into account, it still managed to beat Halo on its home turf (the 360, not the UK, silly), selling 335,000 copies on Microsoft’s console.
But this is where it gets interesting – as I’m sure the more astute among you have already worked out. You see, 55% of the game’s sales were the Xbox 360 version, which amounts to around 61,000 copies. Obviously Microsoft’s bigger market share, not to mention their huge marketing campaign, is paying off. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this affects sales of actual console hardware in the long run.
