GTA2 Coming To XBLA & PSN? [Updated]
Author: Rees | Date: May 2, 2008
The original site for GTA2 seems to have sprouted a countdown timer today, which seems to be counting down to May 23rd. It’s highly unlikely that they could be releasing any new content for a game that’s almost 10 years old, so I’m guessing that the oft-rumoured PSN and Xbox Live Arcade release could soon be upon us.
Of course there are few companies as secretive as Rockstar, so we probably won’t know anything until they (or indeed Sony or Microsoft) release some kind of details. Hey, for all we know it could even be a PSP or DS release.
GTA going back to it 2D roots, with online multiplayer and achievements? I’ll have some of that.

Update!
Well, it seems that it’s just a countdown clock for the release of GTA2 on the Playstation. It kicked in again due to some Y2K / millennium bug / whatever you want to call it weirdness. So says IGN anyways. Sorry GTA fans!

IGN confirmed with Rockstar that the countdown clock in question isn’t counting down to any new announcement and is actually quite old. It was used once, way back in the 1990s to countdown to GTA2’s release onto the PS1. But why the 2008 countdown expiration? Simple. The countdown code is messed up because it doesn’t understand how to take into account the 2000s. So, no GTA2 for the XBLA, no new announcement, just an old clock that should have been removed ages ago.
So just the ‘GTA Fanboy Reality Filter’ kicking in again…
Haha, it brought loads of traffic to the site so it can’t all be bad
Shame that. A bit of original GTA would’ve been good – I always said that the 2D ones were the best ones. I’ll update the original post now!
