The Latest “Formula One Grand Prix” Doesn’t Really Push The PS3 Graphically.
Rumour has it that Sony aren’t going to be licensing the Formula One games anymore, with TG Daily claiming that rising licensing costs are to blame. According to sources, EA, Ubisoft and Codemasters are the favourites to win the contract.
Hopefully that’ll mean F1 games for all of the consoles, as the series has been a Playstation-only affair since Sony first picked up the license in 2002. Whether that’ll actually make the sport interesting, however, remains to be seen.

The thing is, the franchise is easily worth the price tag, just not to Sony as they will only release the game for their consoles, whereas Codemasters (who have snapped up the license today) will be releasing the games on just about every platform ever made, meaning the profits will be huge…
I suppose it goes to show how exclusivity can sometimes cost far more than it’s worth…
It seems crazy to me that a Japanese company would even want the contract for the F1 deal, as F1 is very much a European thing. It makes much more sense for a British company like Codemasters to have it.
Also, like you say, releasing exclusively on the platform with the smallest market share isn’t a very smart move, especially when you’re looking at quite a limited global audience for such a game.
I imagine Codemasters will cobble something together using a modified DIRT engine, and it’ll actually be pretty awesome.
