Robot of many colours

Fear the machine!

This may be old news, I know not. If it is then I apologise; feel free to lambast my somewhat feeble knowledge of Lego game-playing technology from 2004. Anyhow. Firstly, I am not obsessed with Lego and Nintendo. I happened to stumble across this whilst preparing my last gubbins post about Lego and Nintendo and decided to keep this for another day. So here it is. Thank you.

The above image shows a Lego robot. What’s so special about that? I hear you mumble disinterestedly under your breaths. Well this is no ordinary Lego robot. This one has been built specifically to play, and emerge victorious, the first level of Super Mario Bros on the original NES.

This has all the trademarks of something that I find fascinating. It’s a well designed, thought out machine, which completes a task, yet is totally and utterly pointless. Why build it? Why not? The brave engineers who created the Lego machine above saw a challenge, sought a way of overcoming the challenge and created something that did just that. Mega-tastic.

Whilst they may have been good at designing Lego robots that play computer games, it’s hugely unfortunate that their website design skills are scrabbling around at the very bottom of the pile, as evidenced by their website. Prepare to clutch your eyes in agony as their ineptitude in building a website becomes all too clear… go to the official Super Mario Bros Playing Lego Robot site here.

That website is all kinds of awesome. I’m suggesting to my boss that all the sites I make from now on look like that.

Also… They programmed the robot in LOGO!? How freakin’ sweet is that!
