GTA4′s Liberty City Vs. NYC – In Pictures
Author: Rees | Date: May 13, 2008
Anyone who’s played GTAIV will tell you that Liberty City is insanely detailed – and that it also has a lot of hidden gems that they probably didn’t spot the first few times they hurtled through at 100mph. Well, it’s no secret that Rockstar based the city on New York itself, but it is surprising just how much detail they went into when capturing NYC’s unique character, and indeed some of its landmarks.
Check out these side-by-side shots and make your own mind up on the subject. I think they also show off GTA IV’s often-overlooked engine, and just how incredibly talented Rockstar’s graphics people must be. I think it’s easy to forget what a technical achievement the game really is, in a world where people are more concerned about the game’s inclusion of sexual and violent content.

Lots more of these can be found at Matthew Johnston’s “Sightseeing in Liberty City” Flickr set.

Eurogamer did a video version of this, as you can see here.
But of course it isn’t New York. Oh no, not at all. Crime doesn’t happen in New York. New York is a magical place.
Good find!
Hmm… Some clever editing in there, and some really rubbish editing. Plus, their cameraman needs to lean how to hold a camera steady.
I give it 6/10.
