E3: Square Enix Drops the Bomb, Final Fantasy XIII for the 360

Live on stage earlier today at Microsoft’s opening press conference for E3 ’08, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada announced that Final Fantasy 13 would be coming to the Xbox 360 in Europe and America, and a few PS3 fanboys died inside.  The game will be released exclusively for the PS3 in Japan first, with localisation to English and porting to follow.  The rumours suggest that the game will be released simultaneously for the PS3 and the 360 in the English speaking regions.

This is quite a blow to Sony, as the Final Fantasy series is one of their real unit sellers, but the 360′s massive install base is what finally swung Square to take the plunge with what is sure to be a multi disc game of epic proportions.  I’m sure this is where the PS fanboys will attack though, saying that the PS3 version will all fit on one Blu-Ray disc, but to me it feels kinda right in a way to have a FF game on multiple discs, as my fondest memories of the series are playing FF7 on the PS1, which if I remember correctly was on 3 discs, plus playing Blue Dragon has taught me that changing discs is only an inconvenience for about 30 seconds…

Also of note is that at the moment Final Fantasy XII: Versus will remain a PS3 exclusive.

oh boi, FF13 on Xbox360? Can’t wait!! Screw off $ony, it’s just A game. Oh wait, maybe FF:Versus 13 will follow as well. Lawlzz!

Just a game? I wonder why I gotten a PS3 in the first place then, it’s not cheap you know.

My god i can not wait for this game hahah what a geek i know but this is goign to be immense ffs have been getting shorter since 7 but now blueray discs are in the equatiion this should be epic say goodbye to ya day job!

I don’t get what the big deal is about changing discs… it shocks me how lazy people can be xD
