Halo 3 ‘Mythic’ Expansion Brings New Achievements, Maps

Author: Rees | Date: September 3, 2008

Spotted at PAX, someone managed to get this sneaky picture (and a whole load more) of a whole new set of achievements for Halo 3, which are based on the recent Heroic and Legendary map packs, as well as an as-yet unannounced map pack which may or may not have something to do with this.

The achievements total an extra 750 points, and here’s a complete list thanks to a post on Ascendant Justice, a Halo 3 fan forum:

  • Heretic Skull – 25gs
  • Citadel Skull – 25gs
  • Assembly Skull – 25gs
  • Sandbox Skull – 25gs
  • Orbital Skull – 25gs
  • Longshore Skull – 25gs
  • Tank Dropper – 25gs
  • Zombie Repeller – 25gs
  • Delicious Brains – 25gs
  • Save This Film – 25gs
  • Have Fun Respawning – 25gs
  • Killtacular – 25gs
  • Awww, Too Bad - 25gs
  • … Get the Horns – 25gs
  • Post Mortem – 25gs
  • Ghost Patrol – 25gs
  • Blades of Fury – 25gs
  • Pull – 25gs
  • Hammer Time – 25gs
  • Look Both Ways – 50gs
  • Road Rage – 25gs
  • Flag Dropped – 25gs
  • Defend This – 50gs
  • Came… From… Behind… – 50gs
  • Alas, Poor Yorick – 25gs
  • Double Double – 25g
  • Vidmaster Challenge: Brainpan – 25gs
  • Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 – 0gs
  • Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch – 0gs
  • Vidmaster Challenge: Annual – 0gs

And some descriptions for a few of the more interesting ones:

  • Double Double
On a Legendary map, got two Double Kills during a ranked or social match.
  • Came… From… Behind
On a Legendary map, got three assassinations during a ranked or social match.
  • Look Both Ways
On a Legendary map, got a Splatter Spree during a ranked or social match
  • Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7
Entered into a ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.
  • Vidmaster Challenge: Annual
After 9/25/08, completed Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.

There are a whole load of screenshots of the new achievements over at the site, so get ‘em while they’re hot. Of course, Bungie would have to do something pretty special to justify giving away an extra 750Gs, so I’m guessing that this ‘Mythic’ thing is so much more than just a map pack… A whole expansion that adds who knows what?

Perhaps this was the E3 announcement that was canned at the very last minute?

If these are real then it suggests an entire campaign add-on rather than just multiplayer maps, as there is achievements for 5 new skulls, which can only be collected in campaign mode (providing they are the same as the skulls in the normal game).

The supposedly leaked shot of the Mythic title screen shows multiplayer options only. Perhaps they’re tucking some skulls away in multiplayer somewhere?

More campaign would be awesome, just as long as they don’t mess with the story. Perhaps the Legendary ending video was actually the build-up to Mythic?

From what I understand, mythic difficulty is already in the game. There’s a skull that increases the difficulty of all of the enemies by one level…so if you’re on heroic, with the skull active, the enemies are the same as they would be in legendary. Activate that skull on legendary, and you’ve got Mythic.

Yep, the “Mythic” skull nonetheless. I’m guessing that they ran out of dificulty levels to name their DLC after (after “Heroic” and “Legendary”, I don’t think that “Normal” and “Easy” would be such great names for level packs!)

Interesting that this release has 750 points worth of achievements associated with it, as well as its’ own title screen. Perhaps I’m being hopeful, but it seems like it must be much more than just a few new multiplayer maps.

mythic skull does’nt make heroic legendary. Also, the fan created mythic mode, named after the mode in halo: 0, is all skulls on legendary, no deaths(although iron basically means that.
