Video: Secret CoD4 Training Mission Discovered Thanks To ‘Hack’
Author: Rees | Date: September 8, 2008Robert Bowling, Community Manager for Infinity Ward, the studio behind the hugely successful Call of Duty Games, recently posted this video to his personal blog. It’s the entire training mission from Call of Duty 4, before they cut it to the much, much shorter version we all know and love from the final game.
This version includes blowing stuff up in various ways, as well as running an obstacle course. Looks like a lot of fun, but I understand that some gamers might have gotten frustrated having to learn the basics of FPS gaming all over again. It’s a shame they couldn’t have left it in as an extra option, though.
It was originally discovered by a Japanese modder known as Qrysalis, who was poking around in the game’s asset files. I’m surprised it’s taken this long to surface. On a lighter note, Bowling had this to say on the discovery of the mod:
Ah, brings back memories. As you can tell, we decided to make it short and sweet for the final version of the game, but I do miss some of that choice VO (voice over). Nice work Qrysalis, as long as you don’t find our Brokeback Snipers / Hot Coffee moment with Price and MacMillian … then we’re all good.
Nice to see that some game studios still have their sense of humour when it comes to people messing with their stuff.
