Warriors Orochi 2 (Xbox 360 Review)
Author: Tigervamp | Date: September 29, 2008Warriors, huh, yeah…what are they good for? Well, as it happens, quite a lot!
The ‘Warriors’ series of games, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em, which makes them a bit like Marmite, although I wouldn’t be surprised if this game tastes better than Marmite!
Those who love the series are almost certainly going to buy this game regardless of what I say on the matter, and you should, if you love this type of game then this is a must-have title for you as it takes the ingredients of the original Warriors Orochi game and adds a little bit extra for good measure.
There will of course be those of you who despise the very mention of this game as you can’t stand the idea of the repetitive hack and slash action from start to finish and I know exactly where you’re coming from because I used to feel the same way. If you expect this game to be as repetitive as the previous ‘Warriors’ titles then you’d be correct to do so but if you’re anything like me and believe that it’s ok for a game to be repetitive as long as it remains fun then you really ought to check this game out because it is a lot of fun.
There are five stories to choose from in the story mode, and these are Shu, Wei, Wu, Samurai, and Orochi’s, with the Orochi story being a prequel to the events in the original Warriors Orochi game. Each story features a number of battles which appear to increase in difficulty as the story progresses and along the way you’ll unlock characters which are then playable in the remainder of the story and in the other modes the game has to offer. As you play through the game you’ll unlock character-specific weapons and experience points which can be spread across all of the characters you’ve unlocked.
The stories are quite basic and the voice acting and dialogue can be quite strange and how you’ll feel about this combination really comes down to what you’re looking to get out of this type of game. If you’re after a detailed story with top-notch dialogue then you should probably look elsewhere but for me the combined craziness only adds to my enjoyment of the game.
The best thing about this game for me is that it works really well in a pick-up-and-play capacity. I don’t suggest that anyone, except hardened fans of the series, play this game for hours at a time because the repetitiveness might start to irritate you and ruin the experience. For me, despite the fact that this is high-tempo all-out action, this is the type of game that works best in small doses and I am perfectly happy to pick it up for an hour each day in order to get that little bit further in the game.
Let’s not forget that this is a budget title on sale at just £25 in the UK and when you take into account that it offers good replay value even for a full price game this really is great value for money. If you have £25 sitting in your wallet and you are in the mood for an entertaining “switch your brain off and have fun” type of game then I highly recommend this title, and, as it has in my case, it might end up converting you!
8/10

I won the original ‘Warriors Orichi’ in the Gamerscore Challenge, I played it a bit and really was not impressed with it… It seemed to have lost some of the magic from DW5/SW2 which was a shame, plus I’m really not sure about that whole 3 character swap system.
That said, if I get the chance I’ll certainly be giving this game a go, just maybe not at £25!
I actually quite like the 3 character swap system because it means that the characters which aren’t in use can fill up their “magic” gauge more quickly which helps make the battles more tactical.
I love this game. awesome nice game
