Rick’s Rolling to MTV Greatness

Eighties Pop Legend Rick Astley is surely making it to the big time now, After the immense success of the Internet phenomenon “rickrolling“, Rick has managed to increase his airplay time on those top quality commercial radio stations *coughs* and now once again is ready for the big time.
MTV have just announced that Mr Astley has been nominated for the Best Act Ever Category in the MTV Europe Music Awards which will be held in Liverpool this Year. He has some good competition from the likes of Greenday, Tokio Hotel, U2 and a bit less competition from Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. This is the first MTV award the Rick has ever been nominated for in his entire career, so come on people show your support for Rick and lets make 2008 the year for the eighties legend!

This part pretty much seals the deal (from the BBC, my emphasis):

With the internet’s love for all things Rick, I really can’t see him not winning. Not that I think that any of the other nominees deserve it either. “Best Act Ever” ..? How about Guns n’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and the like?
I would be heartbroken if Rick ever did any of those things to me.
I looked through the other categorys and the only other band i wanted to vote for in any of them was foo fighters in the headliners category. Does this mean i’m officially old and hate modern music now?
Also did you notice you can vote for rick as many times as you want/can be bothered to? I voted 5 times!
Foo Fighters? Meh. All their new stuff sounds the same!
At least they aren’t the ting-tings or coldplay.
What they need is a none of the above option. That would be an awsome award show if nobody won anything!
I hear the Ting Tings have been nominated for the “Crimes Against Music” award…
They should have had iron maiden coming up as a nominee but rick still should have (and he did!) won.
You can’t beat the power of the Internet, we have done it people, Mr Rick Astley has only gone and won ” Best Act Ever ” at the MTV music awards.
