iMac Gets Turned Into Arcade Table, MAME On The Cheap!
Author: Rees | Date: October 10, 2008
Believe it or not, the tabletop arcade machine that you see above actually has an old Bondi Blue iMac cunningly suspended inside it. It was created by an intrepid modder known as napes. Here’s the spec:
- iMac 233MHz running OS9 and MacMame.
- Uses iPac controller for arcade buttons/joysticks etc
- Unsoldered & rewired start button on iMac to arcade switch.
- Built cabinet (obviously) – not a kit.
- All functions controlled from joysticks via QuickKeys

The entire system cost less than $200 to build, but that obviously took a lot of woodworking skill – something that I unfortunately lack, as well as an iMac… I sold mine on eBay for £12 (about $20) a few years back!
If you wanted to do this yourself, you could even use our MacMAME tutorial to get it all up and running.
