LittleBigControversy

Sony have just announced a global recall on all shipped copies of LittleBigPlanet after Muslims complained about one of the songs contained within the game. The song was the background music for one of the early levels and contains 2 lines from the Muslim holy text, the Qur’an:-
- “kollo nafsin tha’iqatol mawt”, literally: ‘Every soul shall have the taste of death’
- “kollo man alaiha fan”, literally: ‘All that is on earth will perish’
Media Molecule announced that they did have a ‘day 1′ patch ready, but Sony made the decision to completely recall the game as not to offend anybody without the internet. No new release date has been announced, but it is expected to be approx. 14th November. Sony released the following statement on the matter:-
“During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an,” admitted the company in a statement.
“We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.”
The irony of the situation though is that the song is by a Muslim artist, Diabate’s Symmetric Orchestra, and has been available on iTunes, Amazon, etc for over 2 years now! But as soon as it gets used in a game it’s offensive?!?! Plus Sony didn’t recall Resistance: Fall of Man when the whole Manchester church story blew up in their faces, instead they apologised and gave them a donation, what’s so different this time?
**thinks about WHO is offended**
Oh… On second thoughts, I see…
