iPhone Pirates Get Pirated, Throw Hissy Fit
Author: Rees | Date: November 22, 2008
“Irony” is a word which gets bandied around a lot, usually by people who don’t understand what it actually means (most famous case in point being 90% of the statements in the Alanis Morisette song “Ironic”), but every once in a while a story comes a long which embodies the very essence of irony in such a delicious and beautiful way. Fortunately for us, this particular example is tech-related, so I can tell you all about it here.
You see, online community Hackulous are a group dedicated to cracking iPhone applications, distributing them for free without giving any money to the original developers. The tables turned recently, however, when an upcoming in-house cracking tool of theirs was leaked by Hackulous forum members and pirated all over the internet.
The cherry on this delicious cake of irony is this, however, a statement from a developer on the project known only as SaladFork:
For those who haven’t heard, the newest beta of Crackulous has been leaked. We know how it was leaked, and we know the method used. As for who it is, that’s not important right now. I would however, like to discuss my feelings on this matter.
I personally think this leak is absolutely disgusting, and downright insulting. Let me put this into perspective for those of you out there who might not understand….

…From this moment on, Crackulous is officially canceled. I’m ceasing all work on the project. Features I was working on such as a MutliCrack mode (crack many applications at once), full Appulo.us integration (easily and automatically add a cracked application to Appulo.us), and much more will never come to be.
