Halo: Combat Evolved is Your Xmas Deal of the Week

Author: Vince | Date: December 23, 2008

It’s quite likely that this will be the final offer in Microsoft’s Xmas ‘Deal of the Week’ promotion, and they have saved the best ’till last.  This week sees the Xbox Original title ‘Halo: Combat Evolved‘ getting its price slashed from 1200 down to 600 until next Tuesday.

If you never owned an original Xbox, or just joined the party too late for the original Halo, now is your chance to get this classic game for less than the cost of most XBLA games!

Telltale Unveil Wallace & Gromit: Grand Adventures

Author: Vince | Date:

Telltale Games, the company behind the new Sam & Max series of games and Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, have released details on their latest project, a series of games based on the award winning Aardman Animation series Wallace & Gromit entitled Wallace & Gromit: Grand Adventures.  Casting you as both the quirky inventor Wallace and his faithful canine companion Gromit across a series of adventures that will almost certainly contain zany contraptions and Wenslydale cheese at some point!

Very few details have been announced yet, but it’s a pretty safe bet that this will be a series of episodic adventures available for the PC at least.  Full confirmation of platforms, release timeframe, etc. are expected in 2009, but until then check out some screenshots and concept art after the break.

Holy Haberdashery Batman! New Arkham Asylum Screens!

Author: Vince | Date: December 22, 2008

Eidos’s upcoming CSI meets Splinter Cell game, Batman: Arkham Asylum, is due for release next year on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, but if you can’t wait until then to get a glimpse of the caped crusader as he prepares to clean up the bad guys that have escaped the loony bin then you’re in luck as Eidos have released another 10 screenshots for you to lust over.

So far the game is looking quite dark, both in terms of lack of light and in content, which is no bad thing.  See the full gallery after the break, and thankfully there is not a single boy blunder in sight!

This Week in Rock Band: Merry Christmas to Foo Edition

Author: Vince | Date: December 20, 2008

With it being Christmas this week, Harmonix have dug deep and found us 3 of the lamest christmassy songs they could find to add to Rock Band this week.  Offering us festive classics from the likes of The Pretenders, Billy Squire and Barenaked Ladies…  Not exactly Slade, Wizzard and Chris Rea now is it…  And as a present to you those 3 songs will only cost 80/$0.99 each.

Joining the festive line up will be a 3 track pack from the Foo Fighters with songs spanning from their debut album ‘Foo Fighters’ through to the more recent ‘In Your Honour’.  Sadly no festive discount on these songs, just the usual discount for buying them as a pack.

All tracks will be released on Tuesday via XBL and Thursday via PSN.

Full track listings with video links after the break.

Is Your Big Daddy Feeling Lonely?

Author: Vince | Date: December 19, 2008

If you were lucky enough to get an intact Big Daddy figure with your limited edition copy of Bioshock last year then you may be in a position where your wondering what goes well with a giant, diving suit clad freak with a drill for a hand.  Well, wonder no more as 2K are now offering a limited edition Little Sister figurine in the same scale as the Big Daddy for only $10 exclusively through their online store.

So if this is for you then act quickly as this was a one time only production run and I’m pretty sure they’ll cost more than $10 when they start to appear on eBay!

505 Games Announce We Rock: Drum King for the Wii

Author: Vince | Date:

505 games have announced a brand new rhythm-action game coming exclusively to the Nintendo Wii in April 09 entitled We Rock: Drum King, but rather than cluttering up your house with even more plastic instruments Drum King will only require 2 Wiimotes to play.  Set to contain 30 songs, including such rocking classics as Steppenwolf’s ‘Born to be Wild’ and Bloc Party’s ‘Banquet’, the game will allow you to create your very own drummer and set them on the path of becoming a drum legend.

Developed by ARC System Works (those of Guilty Gear fame), We Rock: Drum King take advantage of the Wii motion sensing capabilities to create the ultimate ‘air drumming’ experience by simulating a full kit.  This is achieved by holding different buttons down whilst ‘striking’ with the Wiimotes, and with multiple levels of difficulty the game will cater for everybody from the part time drummer with a few pots and pans all the way to budding Keith Moon’s.

Screenshot gallery and more details afer the break.

Free Radical Closes its Doors? [Updated]

Author: Vince | Date: December 18, 2008

Free Radical Design, the Nottingham (UK) based company behind the Timesplitters, Star Wars: Battlefront and Haze franchises has closed its doors for good according to a report from GamesIndustry.biz.  They claim that many senior executives had already left the company and that as of today the company has ceased to be.

What that means for the games in development is unknown, but it is believed that they were working on Star Wars: Battlefront 3 for Lucasarts and that in the fallout of this it has now been transferred to Rebellion, who made the PSP entry in the Battlefront series.  It may also mean no more Haze…  What a pity!  The only other confirmed title that Free Radical were working on Timesplitters 4, which hopefully somebody will pick up, given the strength and following the series had.

Resident Evil 5 Cover Art Revealed

Author: Vince | Date:

Capcom have released images of the box art for the PAL versions of Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and it really doesn’t give anything away.  As you can see, all it really tells us is that the game is set in Africa and features zombies…

Having seen the game in motion at the Eurogamer Expo earlier this year I can say that it does look pretty slick, quite intense in places and horrifically gory.  The game is due for release on 13th March on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, with a demo scheduled for release on XBL/PSN in January.

PS3 pack shot after the break.

OX Rage Watch: GTA Cheats Edition

Author: Rees | Date:

In a move sure to get our very own Vince (the artist formerly known as OwningXylophone) all riled up, US retailer GameStop have announced an exclusive cheat available to people who peorder GTA: Chinatown Wars from them.

Actually, all joking aside, I can’t think of anything that would ruin the game more than having all the weapons and $10,000 dollars available right from the very start, which is what you’ll be getting if you pre-order the game from GameStop. Not only that, but the codes will be all over the internet in no time, and their inclusion pretty much confirms that some other cheats will be available too.

Of course there aren’t achievements at stake this time, and with the DS being a very personal affair the opportunity to annoy others is reduced. I guess only time will tell what impact this will have on the game, but I can pretty much guarantee I know one person who won’t be buying it…
