January’s Rock Band Line Up Leaked?
Author: Vince | Date: January 2, 2009
The line up for most of January’s DLC for Rock Band has been leaked, if a report from Kotaku is to be believed. The track listing was originally posted on the Rock Band forums and promptly pulled, but like most things on the internet once it’s been posted there’s always a way to get it back again…
The list features 3 artists, including 6 tracks from the legendary Roy Orbison, who’s inclusion in Rock Band was confirmed last month when US TV channel CMT (Country Music Television) revealed that Roy Orbision DLC was in the works on their website:-
“Plus, get details on how you can rock out with The Soul of Rock and Roll with the upcoming release of the Roy Orbison Pack for Rock Band 2 consoles”
Joining Roy will be 4 tracks from Lenny Kravitz, including the one good song he released, ‘Are You Gonna go my Way?’ and also 2 more tracks from The Steve Miller Band, ‘The Joker’ and ‘Space Cowboy’. So all in all it looks like some truly epic tunes will be coming our want over the next few weeks if this is true. Of course until Harmonix confirm them, these remain firmly in the rumor folder.
Full tracklisting after the break.
‘Claudette’ by Roy Orbison
‘In Dreams’ by Roy Orbison
‘Mean Woman Blues’ by Roy Orbison
‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ by Roy Orbison

Oooh… “Are You Gonna Go My Way” and “The Joker” are in GH:WT. I wonder what other songs will be making the jump over?
Much as I love Guitar Hero, it does seem that they’re losing the fight against Rock Band. It’s a shame really.
“It’s a shame really.”
Is it? Really? The GH series has gone slowly downhill ever since Harmonix and Red Octane went their separate ways… I mean, look at GH3… Difficult for the sake of being difficult! Anybody who claims that ‘Reigning Blood’ or those stupid ‘Guitar Battles’ are fun to play is frankly a liar!
And moving on from there, GH:WT is a victory of quantity over quality. Sure it may have more songs than RB2, but most of them are shockers and the truly exceptional tunes are slowly making there way to Rock Band as DLC or were already part of RB2. Plus there is the graphical side of things, the Wii version looks great, but when you look at the 360 & PS3 incarnations it looks like GH3 all over again! Hell, even GH: Aerosmith had better graphics than World Tour, what the hell is that about!?!? And one final though on the matter. They left the freekin backgrounds on the note charts again in GH, so I still get ‘Guitar Hero Vision’ after playing WT for an hour or so…
Where Rock Band excels is the overall experience, the crowd singing along with the songs and cheering, the frankly ridiculous volume of DLC that GH will not be able to rival unless Harmonix stop releasing any more and the overall level of fun. GH:WT just seems sterile and forced when compared to RB, and in my opinion, the RB guitars blow the GH ones out of the water… I know not everybody will agree with that, but the size it what swings it for me. If GH knocked out a a full or 3/4 size guitar controller then I’d be on it like a shot, but instead they insist on releasing them so small that only a small child could truly feel comfortable playing it for any extended period of time.
(end rant)
That’s kind of what I was hinting at. They’re losing the battle, and it is a shame, but as far as the all-round “experience” goes, Rock Band is the better game – and it absolutely blows GH out of the water for the quality of the DLC.
It’s a shame because Guitar Hero II was so damn good. The gameplay, the selection of songs, and the guitar. As I’m sure you’re aware, the X-Plorer is my favourite of the plastic guitars because the feedback is just so good – it’s fine that other people have other preferences and I love the look and the buttons of the Rock Band guitar, but I just don’t get on with the squishy strum bar.
It’s a shame because I’m an old GH fan pining for the old days. But Rock Band very much deserves all the fame and success that it’s had.
All that said, World Tour is still a lot of fun, and the seemingly random stuff like the battles do add a bit of variation to my otherwise-dull plastic guitar playing career.
Good rant there!
I have to agree with you that GH:WT is definitely losing the battle to Rock Band, though having got World Tour for crimbo I’ve been having a good play through and I have to say I do like some of the new note combinations like the progressive note hammer on chord thingys? (I struggled to think of a good way to word that one) Also the use of the open strum when playing the bass I thought was clever and created a bit more of a challenge for the bassist.
As for the stupid Guitar Hero Vision I’m like you and wish Activision had done something about those patterned fretboards, you just don’t want to go on a mega psychedelic trip after just playing a 5 song set list.
The few good songs in the game are definitely huddled in some real crap songs which makes doing a 5 song set list hard work, rocking out to some weird spanish track by a band I’ve never heard of and if my mate Wii-Lee makes me play that fecking Linkin Park or that Hushpuppies song ever again I’ll insert my crappy small GH:WT Guitar controller where the sun don’t shine! (I wish I had the awesome Madcatz Rock Band Bass, not only is it a lot easier and comfier to play it’d cause some serious pain to my mates nether regions!)
Anyhow I’m not quite as against GH:WT as Vince I do think they could of done better with it though, they could release a update so you can just select a plain background on the note chart hopefully stop the GH Vision, they also need to get their DLC covering more songs a la Rock Band style.
Oh and closing thought the vocal part of GH:WT is a lot less forgiving and a lot harder than RB2 so I’m much prefer that, they’d be no Guitar and Singing both on expert for me with GH:WT!
Completely unrealted to the rock band vs guitar hero debate but does anybody else think that Greg Proops of Who’s line is it anyway fame is spitting image of Roy Orbison?
When I first looked at this article i was wondering why there was a picture of an American Comedian in a story about music.
Yep, I definitely see that. I always thought he looked like the guy from They Might Be Giants too.
