Introducing The Zombie Arcade, For Those Who Fail At MAME
Author: ReesWe’re moving to a new office at work, where we’ll have loads of space, so I thought that perhaps some sort of arcade machine would be a good idea. I got talking to my coworkers about building something, and was surprised that I wasn’t the only one who’d considered tackling a PC-powered MAME cabinet at some point or other.
Of course my laziness and rubbishness at woodwork got the better of me, and other than installing a copy of MAME on my PC and having a play with it, the plan never got off the ground. So, I got to hunting on the internet and found this – it’s called the Zombie Arcade and is not only a very respectable spec (Sanwa joysticks, 6 buttons per player for proper Street Fighter action, 2.1 sound system, and a huge 24″ monitor) but is also built right here in the UK.
It also comes with over 300 officially-licensed games, covering all the classics like Asteroids, Breakout, Bubble Bobble, Centipede, Defender, Dig Dug, Galaga, Missile Command, Mortal Kombat I and II, Pac Man, Paperboy, Pong, Puzzle Bobble, Rainbow Islands, Robotron 2084, Rolling Thunder, Root Beer Tapper, Sensible Soccer, Smash TV, the Sonic games, Space Invaders, TMNT, Tempest, the Virtua Fighter games, Yar’s Revenge, and hundreds more.
So anyway, now I just need to get my boss to shell out the £2425 we’d need to get our hands on one of these things. I think it’s worth every single penny.
