Yellowing Old Computer Getting You Down? Try This Easy Fix
Author: Rees | Date: March 3, 2009
I have a rather sad looking collection of yellowing old computers tucked away. An Atari ST, an Electron, a 486 gaming PC, and even a couple of old Macs. Trouble is, the yellowing is damn near impossible to remove, being as it’s the result of a chemical reaction (the flame retardant in the ABS plastic) and not dirt as commonly believed.
Well, open source retro geeks to the rescue, as this homemade chemical concoction can cure all your woes, as can be seen in these incredible pictures. It’s known as Retr0brite (or retr0bright) and consists of Oxi laundry cleaner, hydrogen peroxide, and a gelling agent.

When combined with prolonged exposure to UV by means of natural sunlight (or a special bulb if you’re really in a hurry) this stuff can work miracles, while leaving your beloved old gadgets undamaged. Amazing stuff!
