EA is Lord of the Rings No More
Author: Vince | Date: March 13, 2009
According to a report from Variety, EA no longer has the rights to make Lord of the Rings based games. The deal expired at the end of 2008 and has not been renewed following the release of the rather lacklustre ‘Lord of the Rings: Conquest’, and it’s looking likely that Warner Bros. will hand the IP over to their own internal studio that have grown substantially since the license was given to EA back in 2001.
The deal spawned 6 games based on the franchise over it’s 7 years and the majority of them were very poorly received, so here’s hoping that WB can resolve that with the tie-ins for the 2 Hobbit films coming up in the next few years.
