Introversion Bringing Global Nuclear War to the DS with DEFCON DS
Author: Vince | Date: April 20, 2009UK based indie developers Introversion Software, hailed as ‘the last of the bedroom programmers’, have regained all of the rights to the finished DS version of their superb PC strategy game DEFCON from troubled distributor Pinnacle and are actively seeking a new publishing partner to take the product to market. John Cook, senior partner at Bad Management (an agency employed to assist it in its discussions with, and evaluation of, potential publishing partners) had this to say:-
“In the current risk-averse environment, companies are placing a premium on finished products with a well-established brand and track record. DEFCON DS is a fantastic publishing opportunity, and we’re confident we will be able to find the right fit for Introversion.”
Specifically adapted for DS with full stylus control, a unique game-mechanic and all the chilling effects of the original Armageddon sim, DEFCON DS is expected to ship worldwide in Q3 this year, and I couldn’t be more excited!
If you have never played the game I urge you to download the PC, Linux or Mac demo to see what your missing, or you could dive right in an buy the full game for only £10 direct from Introversion. If you really want to support a great homegrown british developer then you can download their entrie catalogue of games (Uplink, Darwinia, DEFCON and Multiwinia) for only £20!
About DEFCON
DEFCON is an online, competitive, multiplayer strategy game simulating global thermonuclear war. The game, inspired by the 1983 cult-classic film, Wargames, superbly evokes the tension, paranoia and suspicion surrounding the Cold War era. DEFCON was an instantaneous success, receiving an enthusiastic reception from the world’s gaming media and an average of 85%+ in game reviews. PC Gamer UK described it as ‘pure, deep, utterly unconscionable fun’; whilst IGN awarded DEFCON an Editor’s Choice Award and praised it as ‘highly impressive’.
