Zune Fail!

We love the Zune here at Team Teabag. Vince and I can often be found rockin’ out to our 1st gen 30GB models, and we’ve been eyeing the new Zune HD closely. So these hands-on videos from Gizmodo and CNET, recorded at the recent AllThingsD conference, were right up our street.

Wolfenstein 3D Out Next Week on XBLA & PSN [Updated]

Author: Vince | Date: May 29, 2009

Videogame Violence

ID have just announced through the power of Twitter that Wolfenstein 3D will be released this Wednesday on XBLA and Thursday on PSN, no mention of pricing I’m afraid!

We knew this was coming so it was a case of when and not if, but what does that tell us about the latest chapter in the saga which is due to be showcased at E3 next week?  As the obvious reason for re-releasing this classic DOS shooter is to drum up interest in the new game, but the release date for that has not yet been confirmed with the preorder shipping dates online varying from late June to early August.  I’m sure everything will be revealed next week, but with W3D out next week my monies on sooner rather than later.

***Update***

The prcing for the game has now been announced, with it being a very reasonable 400microsoftpointslogosmall on Xbox 360 and $4.99 on PS3.

Space Harrier Available Now on Virtual Console

Author: Vince | Date:

space_harrier

Sega’s classic 80’s arcade shoot ‘em-up Space Harrier has been released today for Nintendo’s Virtual Console service on the Wii at a cost of 800 Wii points.  Toting a huge laser gun under his arm, Space Harrier can either run along the ground or fly freely through the sky. Either way, he’s always heading forward into a hostile 3D world.

As you progress, hordes of strange creatures and robots fly towards you. Lightning-fast reflexes are required to dodge their incoming fire. Environmental hazards can be a problem too, so take care not to run into any trees or stone structures. And if you need a morale boost, just defeat a boss, and the narrator will remind you that “You’re doing great!”.

So go on, remind yourself of what was classified as a ‘groundbreaking’ game 20 years ago…  You won’t regret it, probably.

Iron Maiden Are Heading to Rock Band

Author: Vince | Date: May 28, 2009

iron-maiden-music-wallpaper-1024x768Anybody who knows me knows that there are 2 things in life I love, one of those things is Rock Band and the other is Iron Maiden, so imagine my excitement when the latest issue of Harmonix’s Community ‘Zine arrives in my inbox announcing that 12 Iron Maiden songs will be released for Rock Band on the 9th of June.

The songs will be a combination of original studio masters along with some live tracks from the recently released Flight 666 album.  There is no pricing announced, but I’d hazard a guess of 1600microsoftpointslogosmall for the lot or the usual 160microsoftpointslogosmall each.  The tracks are:-

Review: PDC World Championship Darts 2009 (Wii)

Author: Rees | Date:

Darts, it’s a funny old game. Well, it is really, a British institution which is enjoying somewhat of a revival in recent times, with burly Englishmen hurling spiky bits of metal at a colour coded target with high precision in the way that only burly Englishmen would.

It’s also a game that, in my somewhat professional opinion, has never really made the transition to the videogame world really successfully, with previous attempts either being too difficult, too easy, or just not really capturing the spirit of the game very well at all.

So it’s certainly very brave of Rebellion and Oxygen Games to step up to the oche on this one (hey, I had to get that pun in here somewhere) and attempt to bring the world of darts to the one platform where it may well just have a chance of working – the Nintendo Wii.

Joe Calzaghe, the former undefeated Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight world champion, visited HMV’s flagship Oxford Street store on Sunday to launch Punch Out!! on the Nintendo Wii.

Whilst he was there Joe challenged 3 members of the public to a round of Punch Out!! live on stage, 2 fully grown adults and little 6 year old Freddie Goggin from Bow, London (pictured above).  Joe knocked out the two adults with little effort, but much to his dismay lost against little Freddie.

As you can see from the picture above Freddie was thourghly chuffed to have won, that or he’s just realised he made stool somewhere in the middle of round 2…

GTA4 Gets All Gay Dahling!

GTA4 Gay Tony

We all knew there was going to be a second batch of DLC coming along for GTAIV, and after the excellent Lost And Damned Rockstar had to do something pretty special to keep people coming back.

Well, how does The Ballad of Gay Tony sound? The game puts you in charge of Luis Lopez, right-hand man (ahem) to nightclub boss Tony Prince, AKA “Gay Tony”. The downloadable expansion is due out this autumn for 1600microsoftpointslogosmall, and maybe or maybe not coming to the PS3 at some point in future.

The game will also be released alongside a special edition of GTA IV itslef, which comes with both expansion packs for $39.99 and is fittingly titled Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City. Rockstar boss Sam Houser had this to say:

“Liberty City is the most vibrant game world we’ve created yet. The episodic structure has allowed us to interweave stories, gameplay and atmosphere in a whole new way.”

“The team at Rockstar North have yet again surpassed themselves, and made something that is both epic and very innovative. This episode’s focus on high-end night life contrasts with the biker gangs portrayed in The Lost and Damned, whilst giving us a lot of new gameplay possibilities.”

So who’s ready for some gayness!?
