E3: EA Press Conference – ‘Need For Speed: Shift’ Driver Profile Details Revealed
Author: Rees | Date: June 1, 2009
After looking at some of the press releases concerning Need for Speed: Shift, I have to say I’m intrigued. The whole ricer street racing, bolting shit all over your car, and running from the cops thing seems to be gone now, and in its place is a proper racing game. E3 have just whet my appetite even more at their E3 conference, so let’s see what they had to say.
Looking to rain on Turn 10‘s parade slightly, NFSS is also getting ultra-realistic cockpit views, with working gauges and rear view mirrors, as well as some pretty sweet graphics all round. The main focus of the E3 announcement, however, is the game’s “driver profile” system, which will track a player’s driving style, presumably allowing the player to improve their style, or perhaps make the most of their strong points.
The driver profile is built up of a combination of personality (aggressive or professional), success, profile points, and badges (like achievements or trophies). Quite what you can actually do with this data remains to be seen, but we’re hoping EA will keep us posted throughtout E3.
