Well, after a pretty poor E3 showing in 2008 Nintendo really had to pull out all the stops this year – of course, whether E3 actually matters to Nintendo is debateable, as even though last year’s Wii Music hoo-ha faded into nothing, they still edged closer to world domination in the past year with Wii Fit.

Fortunately stops were certainly pulled this year, as Nintendo showed a strong lineup of games, as well as the eagerly-awaited sequel to Wii smash hit Super Mario Galaxy. In that lineup we got to give Wii Fit Plus the once-over, check out the excellent new co-op action in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, ponder the usefulness of the Vitality Sensor, and discover Facebook on the DSi.

Then things really started to hot up, as we got to hang out at Wii Sports Resort, fool around with the new Metroid game, oddly subtitled “Other M”, Check out Bowser’s pipes in Inside Story for the DS, and to finish on a high note, we got to witness the aforementioned SMG2 reveal. We even managed to snag a huge gallery of Super Mario Galaxy 2 screenshots!

Finally, we also got a look at The Conduit and Dead Space Extraction, but nothing really new of note to see there. Still, Ninty had E3 down this year, with nothing quite on the level of Microsoft’s Natal announcement, but a fantastic showing for the company nonetheless. It’ll be interesting to see how Sony fare – not that we have long to wait as they’re up next!
