Author: Vince | Date: June 4, 2009
Peter Molyneux, the creative genius behind Populous, Syndicate, Black & White and the Fable series, has been promoted to the role of Creative Director for Microsoft Game Studios in Europe it has been revealed. The promotion occurred over 3 months ago according to Phil Spencer, general manager at MGS, who had this to say about the move at E3:
“The best way for us to make sure our platforms evolve in a way that enables the best creative experiences is to make sure our creative leaders are closely tied into the work that’s going on with the platform team.”
Molyneux says the promotion won’t put him in a position to decline game titles but rather to help nurture creative development. Molyneux had this to say on the matter:-
“I’m definitely not going to go in and say ‘this is a dumb idea’ and ‘this is a good idea’ … I’m more about making sure they really are doing the experiences they’re passionate about, because passion is really central.”
The new role will not effect his position at Lionhead Studios, where he will remain lead designer/creative director.
