Adventures In eCommerce: Shipping From China Is Rubbish
Author: Rees | Date: July 11, 2009
So, I’ve been busy setting up my side project, a little online shop to hawk console accessories to the unwashed masses. Of course, the stock has to come from somewhere, so I placed my order with some fine chaps in the land of cheap electronics tat quality electronics goods – China.
Don’t get me wrong, the wholesaler’s online tracking system is really rather good. I can see that my order was placed on the 6th, was picked the very same day, shipped on the 8th – speedy. Then I’m given a tracking number to check how things are going with Chinese national delivery company EMS and…
3 days later my order details aren’t on there.
Where is my order!?
I do have great faith that it will arrive one day soon. I have dealt with the Chinese before and communication isn’t their strong point – after all, this is the other side of the world we’re talking about here. Different language, different time zone. Perhaps I should’ve gone with the slightly more expensive courier that they offered if I wanted an online tracking system that actually worked.
Ho hum – there’s always PayPal’s various buyer protection features if the stuff never arrives.
You think that running an eCommerce site is easy? Apparently it’s not quite as easy as it seems!
