Guitar Hero 5 Santana 01

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and real life guitar hero Carlos Santana will appear as a playable character in the fifth proper incarnation of Activision’s hugely successful Guitar Hero series it has been revealed today.

With his trademark smooth style, Santana’s accomplishments span four decades and more than 40 albums including the self-titled album that launched one of the most recognisable Latin-infused classic rock anthems, ‘No One to Depend On’, a live version of which will be featured in Guitar Hero 5 with Carlos Santana jamming on stage.

“We’re thrilled to showcase one of the top guitarists of all time in Guitar Hero 5 and offer fans the opportunity to experience Carlos Santana’s signature sounds and iconic likeness first-hand,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero. “His accomplished career and breadth of musical style are a great illustration of the variety of rock experiences we have included in the game and we are excited to announce him as the first of five playable in-game artists.”

If rumour is to be believed the other superstars joining Carlos as playable characters in GH5 are Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Shirley Manson (Garbage) and Matt Bellamy (Muse), although a look down the rumoured complete setlist might also point you to Tom Petty and Josh Homme (Eagles of Death Metal & Queens of the Stone Age) who both have 2 tracks in the game, usually a surefire way to get your digital self immortalised in the game.
