Sub Pop Jumps on the Rock Band Network Wagon
Author: Vince | Date: July 30, 2009
The legendary Seattle based indie record label Sub Pop have become the first to announce their full support of the upcoming Rock Band Network that is scheduled to go live this fall. The company is aiming to make as much of its back catalogue as possible available for download as soon as the service is lauched and the songs approved, this includes material from iconic grunge acts like Nirvana, Mudhoney & Sonic Youth and newer acts like The Shins and The Postal Service.
In a recent Rolling Stone interivew Sup Pop A&R exec and avid RB fan Tony Kiewel said this on the situation:-
“This conceivably could be the opening of the floodgates,” Kiewel said. “We always had the feeling that the people at Harmonix, they’re all in bands, they’re music people and I think it actually broke their hearts that we couldn’t work it out to get our stuff into the queue faster.”
”This’ll be a ‘release’ as far as I’m concerned. This’ll be another format alongside vinyl and CD.”
The Rock Band Network will launch later this year and will allow artists big and small to get their own songs uploaded into the Rock Band in-game store and made available to the world. It’s great to see a record label with the stature of Sub Pop getting on board and I’m sure it will give the credibility of the service a boost and set an example for other indie labels to follow.
Here’s hoping that ‘Touch Me I’m Sick‘ is in the first wave of releases.
