Championship Manager 2010 Priced, Only £2.51

Following in the footsteps of Radiohead, Eidos have today announced the ‘Pay what you want’ pricing scheme for pre-orders of this years installment of their long running Championship Manager franchise. The scheme allows users to pay whatever they want for the game in addition to a £2.51 transaction fee, which is peanuts for a brand new game. The offer only applies to the digital download version and must be purchased via the online Championship Manager store by no later than September 10th, the day before the game is released.
A bold move by Eidos and their new Japanese task masters and one that is sure to hurt sales of Sega’s rival franchise Football Manager, which is not due to release this seasons game until late October by which time CM2010 will have been out for nearly 2 months.
It will be interesting to see how this works out for them, and if it is a success then which franchise will be the next one to try and rejuvenate sales through in this manner.
