Sony Confirm PS3 Slim & PS3 Price Cut at Gamescom
Author: Vince | Date: August 18, 2009
During their keynote speech at the Gamescom event in Germany Sony took the opportunity to confirm 2 of the worst kept secrets in gaming, firstly that the PS3 Slim is a reality and will be available for $299/£249 as of Septemeber 1st. According to Kaz Hirai, SCEI President and CEO, the new PS3 Slim will feature the same specs as the 120GB PS3 model currently on store shelves, but will be 33% smaller, 36% lighter and consume a 34% less power than its bigger brother.
Secondly, Hirai-San also confirm the the existing PS3 (fat?) will get a long overdue price cut as of tomorrow. The new pricing will be €299 in Europe, $299 in the US and 29,980 yen in Japan, there is no mention of a new UK price but it would be a pretty safe bet that we’re looking at £249.
