Xbox 360 Gets a Price Cut & Hike in the UK
Author: Vince | Date: August 27, 2009The long rumored death of the Xbox 360 Pro in the UK has been confirmed today as Microsoft unveiled a new pricing strategy for the console in the UK market. The move will see the 60Gb ‘Pro’ package phased out and the 120Gb ‘Elite’ dropping to £199, but the shock part is that the core ‘Arcade’ model will see an increase in price from £130 to £160! The reason behind the increase, exchange rates apparently. A MS rep told CVG this:-
“We have not made upward adjustments to the trade price of consoles before. A modest increase on the trade price of Xbox 360 Arcade consoles in EMEA allows us to offset exchange rate fluctuations and changes in local market conditions while still offering the most affordable console on the market,”
“Xbox 360 remains the most affordable console in the market and offers a great value entry point into a fantastic range of entertainment experiences available on Xbox 360 now and in the future like Zune Video Marketplace, Facebook, Twitter, Avatar Marketplace and of course Project Natal which will be compatible with all Xbox 360 consoles,” the company added.
The new prices mean the UK console market looks something like this right now:-
- PS3 Slim – £250
- PSPGo! – £230
- Xbox 360 Elite – £200
- Wii – £180
- Xbox 360 Arcade – £160
- Nintendo DSi – £150
- PSP 3000 – £140
- Nintendo DS – £100
