Alton Towers “Spinball Whizzer” Getting A Spikey Blue Rebranding
Author: Vince | Date: January 19, 2010British theme park Alton Towers are set to give their old pinball inspired ride ‘Spinball Whizzer’ a facelift and a new name in February when the ride is re-christened ‘Sonic’s Spinball’ in honour of Sega’s spiky blue mascot. Fansite SonicStadium.org contacted the park to get the lowdown on what was happening with the ride and got this reply:-
“Apologies for the delay in getting back to you but I have been on holiday. I am sure that you will have picked up press reports by now relating to Spinball Whizzer and the fact that we are in partnership with Sega resulting in a retheme to the ride to coincide with the relaunch of Sonic. We hope that the retheme will be complete for our February half-term opening.”
The ‘relaunch’ of Sonic mentioned refers to the long awaited Project Needlemouse, Sega’s new Sonic game that aims to take the series back to its 2D roots with Sonic’s cast of many friends left by the wayside to focus solely on the blue spiky one. What is interesting is that they mention that it is being done “to coincide with the relaunch of Sonic”, now forgive me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t coincide normally mean at about the same time? So maybe Project Needlemouse will be here sooner than we think.
