Another day, another “accidental” slip up telling us that Activision’s DJ Hero is indeed real and is indeed on its way. This time we have Activision Blizzard’s CEO Bobby Kotick to thank, who came up with this while speaking at the World Economic Forum:

“We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you actually can play competitively and spin discs and mix songs”

I think that’s confirmation enough. That doesn’t mean that the game will be any good, or even particularly realistic (as if that matters, of course), but it should remove any shadow of a doubt remaining in gamers’ minds about this game’s existence.

It’s also interesting to see that we finally have a tentative release date for the game: “later this year”.

We’ll hold you to that, Bobby.

MC Hammer, the walking 90′s punchline and part time pastor, posted something rather interesting on his Twitter account recently:-

“I got one day to recover, then it’s LA to Activision to get a glance of a top secret project on Monday…Cannot wait !!!”

While this really means very little, we can always speculate can’t we.  My guess would be something to do with DJ Hero, either because ‘Can’t Touch This’ will be in the game or to get him in a motion capture suit for some in game hammer dancing.

Or of course he could just have friends in high places…

Although Activision already have DJ Hero in the works, it seems they are still not going to be first to market with their dance\hip-hop incarnation of their ever popular Guitar Hero series, as today Genko Interactive and 7 Studios have announced that they have teamed up for their own foray into the rhythm game market with Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.  Of course we all know that any rhythm game worth its salt has its own special peripheral, and Scratch is no different.  The designers have got DJ hardware legends Numark on board to design a unique controller for the game.

Over the past few days some interesting bits of news regarding a game by the name of ‘DJ Hero’ have been emerging on various game sites, the main sources seemingly being Kotaku and MTV News. The game is definitely under active production, but ongoing issues with the controller design as well a music licensing restrictions have delayed development.
